After nearly 200 years the descendants of Rachel And Andrew Drysdale were reunited at Kerry's place in Brisbane. (From left to right )

John Drysdale and the Tooloom gold fields.

Urbenville, originally known as Tooloom.  John Drysdale had a gold mining lease here in1860S

Tooloom Creek, Paddy's Flat, site of the gold rush that began in the 1850s.  John Drysdale was also in a partnership selling goods on the gold fields.  Much of the Tooloom gold was send to Ipswich or Brisbane banks.

Congratulations Kerry on starting this blog and for the invitation. Courtesy of the Family History (State Library of Queensland) my earliest find on Andrew Drysdale is as 2nd Mate on the Convict Transport 'Lord Melville' sailing from Batavia to England 23 Apr 1817.

Me outside the Royal Mail Hotel, Goodna.  Still going strong after 170 years! Andrew Cafe showed me around. It's now a very popular Blues venue.  Worth a visit and a cold beer!

After over 70 years the descendants of brothers William and Stan Drysdale met together at the home of Darryl Drysdale in North Maclean.  It was a wonderful, relaxed day sharing stories, photos and laughter of our shared ancestry!

Royal Mail Hotel Goodna, Qld (circa 1890).
John Drysdale left the family home in the Rocks in Sydney in the 1850s to start a new life in Queensland, which had recently become an open colony to non convicts and settlers.  John's son John was born in the hotel and carried on the family tradition of hotel keepers into the 1930s. At the time Goodna was an important port carrying passengers and cargo along the Bremer River between Brisbane and the new settlement in Ipswich.

Welcome to the Drysdale Family in Australia Blog!  This Blog is dedicated to the memory of Captain Andrew and Rachel Drysdale who settled in Sydney in 1823, and their descendants who are now spread around Australia and beyond.  All descendants are welcome to add to the blog so that over time a more complete story of our family in Australia can be written!
